Finished panel from before. :3
Fishbones is a bi-weekly comic written by Jisuk Cho and drawn by Yuki S. The story follows Ferris, a bookish teen in Southport (a pseudo-New York City) whose best friend is in a notorious criminal family. Despite this, the plot is more about their friendship than it is about the mob. The story touches on growing up, relationships, and trust (and hopefully never takes itself too seriously). Because teens and gangsters swear like its going out of style, this comic contains foul language and should be approached with caution.
How could I not reblog this?
Go visit Bemused-Dreamer on DeviantART! Gotta say, I ADORE her backgrounds and environments, and she’s got a really distinctive style that is working well for her~!She also does some cute lolita stuff for you lolis out there!
Featuring miss ShadowBucket! She has a way with…well, ANY type of media and a style that certainly stands out…And check out that robot!
I want to post again about this fabulous site. First of all, this dynamic piece as the header of MangaMagazine.net is by fellow tumblrite quirkilicious.
GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR BUSINESS! This site has been up for a while and they share a lot of the same ideas with us. Their artists are all completely pro with fantastic stories. Just go and read some of their stuff, because it’s all great, and just by visiting you’re supporting their team and their cause. Buy a book or ten, I’m sure they’d appreciate it and you’ll definitely be getting a quality product.
Professor RocketShoes!! This is our manga professor at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I was personally trying my best to deviate from manga style before I took her class. Mia Goodwin (formerly Mia Paluzzi) made me and so many of my friends and fellow students believe that we COULD get published drawing manga and she taught us everything we needed to know about the manga style and how to hybridize our style and stories so they would appeal to American audiences.
I know she’s working on quite a few professional projects at the moment, so watch out for her. You can definitely learn a lot from her!
Mia made us aware of Manga Magazine (check it out) and their business. I didn’t realize until I was contacted by the artist of SIN that they have a similar goal to ours! I hope to be able to collaborate and learn from them in the future.
Now….An example we should all live by!
Miss Mad Rupert is a fellow SCAD student and success story. A year and a half ago, Mad, Sofia, myself and a bunch of other cool SCADdies were selected to go to Tokyo and study how sequential art works over there. While we were there, our professors insisted that we get up at 4 in the morning to travel to Tsukiji fish market. I was completely bitter about being up WAY before the sun and surrounded by DEATH and CHUM having some young gentleman think it would be funny to throw a HUGE LIVE FISH AT MY FEET AND WATCH ME SCREAM.
Mad, on the other hand thought it was, quote, “PRACTICALLY THE COOLEST THING EVER.”
And then Sakana was born. And it was glorious. Mad has a cast of AMAZING characters with a style that suits the humor of the strip accompanied by incredible talent. As for inspiration, she takes influence from out-of-the-ordinary styles like that of Noboyuki Fukumoto, Felipe Smith and Natsume Ono.
Mad has over 100 strips already, and I’m not certain of the details or whether or not I’m allowed to give them, but Sakana is about to enter the big leagues. And you have the opportunity to read it now.
But as soon as Mad’s first book hits the shelves, buy ten. I know I’m going to. Please give your respect and support to a wonderful artist and person who has managed to tackle the industry in record time. Go Mad!!
Page two. Please go check out her DeviantART!
I got some submissions today! You all will have to forgive me, since I’m new to tumblr in general and I’m still a little clumsy with the whole system, so I’m sorry if anything goes technically wrong…
Although I do not know the level of her artistic training, the first thing I noticed about her work is that she has a beautiful inking technique (which I would love to know more about!) and a good sense about her when it comes to toning. I’m posting two of her most recent pages from her DeviantART. Enjoy!
Hey all! I’d like to start Manga International’s maiden voyage with Sofia Alexander A.K.A. Elenath’s original manga Onyx Equinox. I, for one, LOVE her story and can’t wait to see it happen for reals. This links to her DeviantART, so make sure to go check it out!
