Now….An example we should all live by!
Miss Mad Rupert is a fellow SCAD student and success story. A year and a half ago, Mad, Sofia, myself and a bunch of other cool SCADdies were selected to go to Tokyo and study how sequential art works over there. While we were there, our professors insisted that we get up at 4 in the morning to travel to Tsukiji fish market. I was completely bitter about being up WAY before the sun and surrounded by DEATH and CHUM having some young gentleman think it would be funny to throw a HUGE LIVE FISH AT MY FEET AND WATCH ME SCREAM.
Mad, on the other hand thought it was, quote, “PRACTICALLY THE COOLEST THING EVER.”
And then Sakana was born. And it was glorious. Mad has a cast of AMAZING characters with a style that suits the humor of the strip accompanied by incredible talent. As for inspiration, she takes influence from out-of-the-ordinary styles like that of Noboyuki Fukumoto, Felipe Smith and Natsume Ono.
Mad has over 100 strips already, and I’m not certain of the details or whether or not I’m allowed to give them, but Sakana is about to enter the big leagues. And you have the opportunity to read it now.
But as soon as Mad’s first book hits the shelves, buy ten. I know I’m going to. Please give your respect and support to a wonderful artist and person who has managed to tackle the industry in record time. Go Mad!!

I got some submissions today! You all will have to forgive me, since I’m new to tumblr in general and I’m still a little clumsy with the whole system, so I’m sorry if anything goes technically wrong…
Anyway, I was contacted by a Miss Karen, who goes by Green-pauper on Deviantart, and is beginning a lovely little webcomic called The Scent of Lavender.
Although I do not know the level of her artistic training, the first thing I noticed about her work is that she has a beautiful inking technique (which I would love to know more about!) and a good sense about her when it comes to toning. I’m posting two of her most recent pages from her DeviantART. Enjoy!

Good afternoon everyone! First of all I just wanted to say that we already have ten followers and SO MUCH support from you guys. Thank you so much for spreading the word, and I hope it continues to get out there.
I’m starting off the day with some of my favorite pieces from Sofia! She did these a while back, but I am ever impressed by her ability to create tones with ink and frisket film. These were alternate covers she did for a story about a little girl and her bird. It was quite cute!
